Thinking about our email addresses

Posted by:

I just read a post on LinkedIn today about the importance of our email address. In this post, the writer raise up the concern that e-mail address can make a quite first impression in every contact we make. Especially in job seeking, e-mail address is the first thing a hiring manager sees before seeing our names, our cover letters or our resumes attached. Thus, this is the first thing to show the recipients how professional we are. The article reminds me right away about my @u.northwestern.edu e-mail address. During the last five months, this email address that the school provided to me has not only been a mail box for me to receive all the important information from the school and from MSC program but is also a very helpful tool for me to introduce myself to someone I contact for the first time by email. Indeed, when someone first time got my email. He/she can determine quickly that this email is sent to them from Trang Le, a candidate from Northwestern University which means this is not a spam mail and could be save to open. While for those who I may have met at school, in a career expo or at an alumni networking event, this email can easily remind them about someone they have met and where they met this person. For all of that, I certainly feel so proud of my email. I hope all of my friends who like me are just using it as a normal school mail box will start to take more advantage of it in our job search or other business if applicable.
